The Coleshill School (TCS) works within the framework of the Single Equality Act 2010 and is committed to meeting the needs of all students including those with SEND: special educational needs and/ or disabilities, to ensure they are not treated less favourably than other students. The Coleshill School ensures that all students, regardless of their specific needs are offered quality first teaching which will enable them to make the best possible progress, where possible this is within the mainstream setting.
How do we support SEND students in care?
- TCS recognises the issues that a SEND student in care may encounter: we endeavour to treat all students equally.
- SEND students in care are entitled to the same level of support as other student with SEND.
- The school and the SENDco will work collaboratively with carers and representatives from other agencies to ensure appropriate provision.
- A SEND representative will attend PEP meetings when required.
The Inclusion Team provide additional support to a students who are identified as having high needs, or for a range of reasons find it difficult to access education. This may include students who have a temporary need e.g. suffering a bereavement. Whereas, others may have had a prolonged absence, or be new to the school and need a period of supported induction.
