Component 1: Understanding Computer Science
Written examination: 1 hour 45 minutes (62.5%)
Component 2: Computational Thinking and Programming
On-screen examination: 2 hours (37.5%)
Component 3: Software Development

Programming project: 20 hours

KEY STAGE 3:

Year 7:

  • E-safety – Understanding the risks of the internet and how to prevent them.
  • Computer Technology – Investigation how computer components work together in order to perform their daily tasks.
  • Scratch Programming – Developing programming skills in a game based environment.
  • Logic Gates - Understanding how a computer processes data.

Year 8:

  • Problem Solving – Developing problem solving skills with regard to solving issues in the real world
  • Python – Developing skills in a text based programming language
  • Networks – An investigation into how computers communicate with each other.
  • HTML – A practical understanding of the computer language used to develop web pages.
  • Data – An understanding of how computers store characters, numbers images and sound.

KEY STAGE 4:

Year 9:

  • Python Programming – Developing programming and problem solving skills
  • Computer Technology – Developing an understanding of how computer components operate.
  • Security – An investigation into the risks of technology and measures to prevent them.
