The whole school community is celebrating the exceptional achievement of our amazing students in this year’s GCSE and BTEC results. We are delighted that the hard work, determination and resilience of our students has been rewarded with such a pleasing set of results.
Pass rates in English and Mathematics are the highest the school has ever achieved, including in the government’s tougher measure of the Grade 5 ‘Good Pass’, which 52% achieved in both English and Mathematics. The number of students achieving a Grade 4 ‘Standard Pass’ in both subjects also rose to the highest ever at 78%.
Across a wide range of subjects our students have achieved some phenomenal grades. All subjects are now being taken in the new GCSE or BTEC format, with the removal of coursework for most subjects and a tougher examination series. It is in this context that we are thrilled with our students’ achievement. In Science almost half of the students achieved 2 sciences at Grade 5. Students studying Spanish performed very well with 75% achieving a Grade 4 and almost half of the 128 students studying Geography achieved a Grade 5. We also saw dramatic improvements in expressive arts subjects such as Music, Product Design and PE.
Our continued work on increasing the number of students achieving the highest grades of 7-9 has led to an increase in these grades, both in subjects such as Computing (35%), Music (25%) and Art (18%) and individuals, including those students celebrated below. We are also very proud of our BTEC results with an amazing 57% of students achieving a Distinction or better in Sport and 33% of students achieving these grades in Health and Social Care; this is despite very recent changes to grade boundaries which has affected a number of students’ results in this subject.
Headteacher Ian Smith-Childs commented, ‘We are very proud of the students in this year group. They have been a wonderful year group throughout their time at The Coleshill School and have quite rightly achieved some fantastic results. Well done to all our students and thank you to our amazing staff.’
The school now looks forward to working with many of these students, as they start the next steps in their journey, in our Sixth form. For all those students who are moving on to other education providers or work based apprenticeships, all the staff at The Coleshill School wish you every success and happiness in your future. This is and always will be your school.
